About the Event
Friends of Pachaug Forest is thrilled to sponsor this educational hiking experience with Markham Starr, local author and photographer.
Native Americans built over twenty different types of stone structures throughout New England ranging from cairns to serpent effigies over the course of their 12,000 year presence in this area. Manifestations of their spiritual beliefs, these objects remain in the long abandoned woods all around us. This walk will give hikers a chance to see some of these works in the Teftweald at Birchenturn Preserve in North Stonington on Saturday, March 22nd, at 9:00 AM. While the hike is moderate and relatively short, it generally takes about three hours. Hiking sticks are recommended, as a section of the hike is off-trail. Rain cancels hike with a makeup date of April 5th at 9:00 AM.
The preserve is at 282 Grindstone Hill Road in North Stonington. Note that it is a shared driveway…
