About the Event
Join FOPF and Marty Podskoch for an intriguing presentation about the CCC legacy in Pachaug State Forest. Civilian Conservation Corps Day is celebrated nationwide to commemorate how, in 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the CCC with Executive Order 6101. Marty will be giving a presentation on how the CCC was instrumental in building trails, roads, campsites, and dams; stocking fish; building and maintaining fire tower observers’ cabins and telephone lines; fighting fires; and planting millions of trees. In addition, there will be a guided walking tour around the remains of Camp Lonergan. Sites include the statue, CCC pillars, dynamite shed, and roller. We’ll return to a campfire where we can share snacks and hot beverages.
We invite all those interested in history to come hear this fascinating, historical presentation.
